Janet Mendelsohn

Janet Mendelsohn’s images focus on the inner-city district of Balsall Heath in the 1970’s. This was an area in a state of flux, shaped by the immigration that transformed the community. It also hosted the largest red light district of the time. The social activity is the foreground of the images, yet the backdrop of the location and the buildings sets a scene for the narrative.
